Are you a DJ/producer who procrastinates? 3 things you need to know!

3 things DJ/producers need to know about procrastination

Procrastination is an issue that plagues the majority of DJ/producers in dance music.

Chances are procrastination is making you feel like a loser and you’re probably beating yourself up for being lazy because you haven’t cranked out a tune in months or finished recording a DJ set - so much so that you might have even thought about quitting music production and/or DJing - putting your dreams in dance music on hold because you don’t feel like you’re progressing as a DJ/producer.

You might be thinking that your time management skills suck right? Because with so much time to kill, how is it even possible that you haven’t opened up your DAW in 3 months or recorded a mixtape in over 8 months? Perhaps you’ve been wanting to finish an album but have been dragging it out for 2 years and haven’t even finished 1 track. Even with so much time to kill, you’re still not doing anything at all and you feel embarrassed by it, while this literally is the best time (perhaps ever) for you to be honing your craft and creating your album.

Here’s what you need to know: You’re not lazy and you don’t have a time management issue, you have a trust issue which results in a procrastination issue.

Something is blocking you mentally from progressing as a DJ/Producer but you don’t know what that is - it scares you and it’s stopping you from making decisions on what your next steps should be. You don’t trust yourself enough to make that decision. And so you avoid it. You wait and wait. You procrastinate.

Inside this blog post, you’ll find 3 things that you need to know about procrastination so that you can stop focusing on the wrong problem - laziness or bad time management, and start working on the real one, overcoming procrastination and what’s causing it so that you can progress as a DJ/producer, get noticed and move the needle.

1. Procrastination is a natural defence and an ongoing battle in your brain

Procrastination is a natural defense rooted in our human biology that protects you from harm by avoiding what scares you. It’s an ongoing battle in your brain. And I want you to learn about this self-protection mechanism so that you can become more decisive in overcoming this challenge as a DJ/producer, and as a human being!

Even more, you can make procrastination work for you so that you can achieve finishing tracks, recording mixtapes and stand out as a DJ/producer. What you want is to get noticed, feel proud and move the needle in dance music.

Stop confusing laziness with procrastination and learn to identify when you are procrastinating and what to do about it, which is what will build self-esteem and confidence in yourself as a DJ/producer.

2. Procrastination is one of the most common issues among DJ/producers: you are not alone!

Throughout the years I’ve helped countless DJ/producers work through procrastination and get to a point where they book in Live stream gigs and land radio residencies even during COVID. I’ve seen the same patterns return and I’ve identified 6 common types of procrastinators in dance music. Learn about what type of procrastinator you are so that you can know how procrastination shows up for you in your electronic music practice. Knowing this enables you to go from not opening up your DAW in months to smashing out track after track or recording mixtapes consistently and with total ease, keeping you in a creative flow that makes you feel excited because you can now see yourself progress as DJ/producer in a way you’ve always imagined it.

This categorisation is not meant to put you in a box because it’s highly likely that you’ll identify with more than one type of procrastinator. But naming it creates distance between you and the thing you are avoiding so that you can witness it without judgment. It also creates a safer space mentally from which you can operate so that you can overcome this issue with clarity and confidence, instead of letting your fear run the show.

3. Waiting to overcome procrastination is the worst kind of procrastination

Procrastinating on overcoming procrastination is by far one of the worst things you can do. It’s important that you raise your awareness on how debilitating this is for your progress as a DJ/producer so that you can feel lighter and finally see the path forward on your next steps for how to stand out from the crowd as a DJ/producer, get noticed and move the needle in dance music.

What is often the case here is that you’re waiting for the perfect time or the ideal conditions to overcome this issue. The fact is, that perfect time and those ideal conditions will never come because you’re actually lacking the confidence in your own decision-making and you’re trying to solve the wrong problem.

Your focus needs to be on getting the tools and support you need to overcome procrastination otherwise you’ll keep coming up with countless other things you feel you “need to have first” before you can finish tracks or mixtapes.

This keeps you stuck in a whole lot of thinking and worrying about your progress and career in dance music and never really getting anywhere with it.

All that time wasted waiting can be spent on getting things done and progressing as a DJ/producer. Time is something you can never get back and you could have been further along by now.

I’ve had clients get an amazing transformation within a matter of days, telling me how much my shit works and they couldn’t imagine how they could have gotten their results of finishing a track or a mixtape within such a short amount of time without my support.

At this point, you’re ready to face this head-on because you KNOW something has to change and you’re ready to solve your procrastination problem now. You can feel electronic music in your soul and it has been like that ever since you discovered it. It’s your passion and you wouldn’t know what else to do.

Don’t drag this with you for yet another year - and instead, build confidence in your decision-making and become more productive so that you can finish your tracks & record sets faster, more easily and with less frustration and finally progress as a DJ/producer.

Just imagine what you will be able to achieve if you were using the time you have available to you now to get to where you want to be in dance music - it would be life-changing right?

It can be! And that’s why I created this free training for you.
