3 tips to help you move forward when you're NOT hitting your goals in dance music

No matter how big or small, when we don’t hit the goals we have set for ourselves, it can feel frustrating, discouraging, disappointing or maybe even embarrassing.

And you know what?

It’s ok to wallow a little bit. You’re not required to cover up your disappointment with toxic positivity or just power through.

The best thing to do really is to allow and accept the frustration, disappointment and embarrassment so that this can move through you instead of getting stuck in your body (or bodies if you will), your mind, your overall experience in dance music and just as a human being here on this earth.

It’s healthy and empowering to learn how to process feelings of failure, perceived mistakes, and second-guessing yourself.

  • Did I do enough and was it good enough?

  • What did I do wrong?

  • Why isn’t this happening for me yet and what’s taking so long?

  • Do I lack the talent or the skills as a DJ or electronic music producer to achieve this?

  • I feel like a fraud, what am I even doing all of this for?

These are just a few examples of the thoughts that might be running through your head when you’ve been setting yourself up for success as a DJ or electronic music producer in dance music.

Perhaps you’ve been working to get the opportunity to have your first or next EP released on a record label that you love or to get booked for more DJ gigs.

You’ve finished the tracks, put the demo together or consistently published new DJ sets on SoundCloud to build your online presence and get more visible as an elecctronic music producer or DJ.

After putting in the effort, you still hear crickets and you keep going around in circles not knowing all the tools and resources to go about it the right way, and so you keep reaching for that goal of getting released or booked for DJ gigs but never manage to achieve it.

The thing is, it seems like nobody really talks about what to do when you don’t hit your goals in dance music and it seems as if only successes are to be talked about and celebrated.
